Hello Everyone,
We are about halfway through the season now, and I wanted to give a quick update of how things are going, check in on who’s qualified for Finals already and who may still need to get some scores in, and do some housecleaning on the overall placement list. Please click through for more details:
First Off, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has been pre-registering on the website. It seems like a small thing, but it really makes it easier for the shops and clubs who host the events when they have an idea of how many people to expect. That being said, even though pre-registration is significantly up from last year we are still only seeing about 50% pre-registration, so please remember to pre-register whenever possible. As a reminder, pre-registration closes at 11:59pm on the Thursday before the shoot. After that I usually don’t have access to the site. If you have any difficulty registering online, please let me or Sue know and I will do whatever I can to fix it. I do apologize for any inconvenience around online registration. Since all the money the Shoot Up Tour makes is paid back out at the end of the year, we are using free plug-ins and apps and they do get little clunky sometimes.
Ditto for paying with exact change! Again, it seems small but since all the money goes into envelopes at the end of the shoot, exact change is incredibly helpful. Everyone has been really good about that this year, and I think you!
So far we have a total of 306 registrations over 12 shoots. Registration is up around 4-5 archers per shoot on average, which is great! We’ve also had six shoots with more than thirty archers already this year. I don’t think we’ve had that many in entire seasons in the past, so that is very exciting.
The scores are significantly higher this year as well. We have a total of four 900’s already (two at 80+ X’s) and a couple more 899’s too. With 12 more chances left to improve it looks like this year could have some of the highest scores we’ve ever seen in the Pacific NW Shoot Up Tour. I’ve spoken to many folks who have told me they’ve shot their personal bests this year, and that makes me incredibly happy! One of the biggest reasons we do this is to give people a chance to hone their skills and prepare for Vegas, and it looks like that is definitely working this year!
You can check the current standings on the Results page. This weekend a few people asked that I include the breakdown of the three best scores for each archer, so I will include that info moving forward. That does make the table pretty wide, though, so you may need to scroll around the page to see everything on smaller screens.
Speaking of the Results page, I’ve been trying to update the current standings at least once a week. Please review that page and let me know if anything seems amiss. Since we do not have unique Shooter IDs I have to do this by name match, which is not an exact methodology. I do my best to catch the differences in spelling and combine all the the Jim vs. James / Mike vs. Michael type of mistakes, but I always miss some. The quicker you can let me know of those, the easier it is to fix them. Also, if you have a name you prefer (Pam vs. Pamela, for instance) please shoot me a note and I will make sure to get it updated appropriately, and avoid future mistakes.
As of this writing, 45 people are already qualified for the Final Shoot Up, and 26 more have two scores in. As a reminder to everyone, in order to qualify for the Final Shoot Up you must have a minimum of three (3) scores, and you must have shot in at least two legs of the Tour prior to Finals weekend. If you shoot more than than three legs, your three highest scores count for your Finals score. A number of people have been confused about this, so I’m going to give some examples that I hope will clear things up.
Example 1
Sally shoots in two events, one in November and one in December. She then comes to Finals weekend and shoots three more qualifying scores on the Saturday before the Final Shoot up. The three scores she shot on Saturday before the Finals are her three highest scores. Is Sally qualified for Finals? And if yes, which three scores count?
Sally is qualified for Finals. She shot a total of 5 qualifying scores, and two of those five were shot before Finals weekend so she’s good to go. If you shoot more than three scores, the three highest ones count, so in this case all three of Sally’s scores from Saturday before Finals will count toward her Finals score.
Example 2
Don shoots in a single event in early January, and then shoots two qualifying scores on Saturday of Finals Weekend. Is Don qualified for Finals?
Don is not qualified for Finals. He did get a total of three qualifying scores, but he only shot one score before Finals weekend. One of the points for having the Tour is to foster growth within the archery community and to Support the shops and clubs all over the Northwest. To that end, we require that you shoot in a minimum of two qualifying events prior to Finals weekend.
I hope that makes sense to everyone. Please let us know if you have any questions, and we’ll see you around the range!
